Wildlife Emergency - 2014 Heatwave
As climate change increases in severity, extended periods of high temperatures with no night relief caused the collapse and death of many animals. Ringtail possums were badly impacted.
Wild Days was already close to capacity when the heatwave hit. Another 120 ringtail possums arrived at the shelter over a three day period, many with burns to their hands and feet from hot surfaces. A call out for volunteers saw an influx of helpers to assist around the clock for weeks.
