Who We Are

Wild Days Family

Wild Days is run by founder Kay Taranto with the help of her two daughters, Jacqui and Hayley and sons-in-law Ross and Manuel, and mum Margaret.

We cannot do it alone. The list of extra helping hands at Wild Days is long and range from those who volunteer one or two shifts a week, to once a fortnight or month, on a casual basis or for working bees and those who donate their time off site.

Wild Days also believes in teaching future wildlife carers through their Junior Volunteer Program which allows young people the chance to be involved in the shelter so they can grow and learn and share with their friends the amazing stories of our wildlife.

Wild Days Foster Carers, Kim and Maddison, who are progressing through their training to become their own wildlife shelter one day. They have care of some of Wild Days' animals as they learn the vast array of information and skills that are needed to successfully rehabilitate wildlife.

In times of emergency such as a heatwave, when the call out is made, we see a flood of people put their hands up to lend a hand. All amazing people willing to give their time to help when help is needed.

This page will highlight our current crew who are helping make the shelter continue to run day and night every day of the year. This list is dynamic and over the years we have had numerous people come and go.  Many local and travelling vets also provide valuable support to Wild Days through assessment and guidance, willing to fit in the time to see a sick or injured wild animal amongst their busy clinics.

Support not only comes in the form of people volunteering their time but also all those people or organisations who are prepared to support Wild Days through financial donations or donations of goods and supplies.   Our regular and one off donors are valued members of our team, as the cost of specialized formulas, medications, heating costs, cleaning and laundering items and many other expenses, are ever increasing with the increasing number of animals needing care.

Finally, our team includes every person who takes the time to stop and help an animal in need, instead of passing by. Whether it is calling for help or rescuing the animal and taking it with you to find help, you are all heroes. Those people have the privilege of seeing our native wildlife close up, they get to see how amazing they are than then share their experiences with the people around them.

This is the way a community is created where people care and respect the native wildlife we all live with.

Check out our Supporters Page  to see many of these people or organisations and to also a bit of a history of the kind of support we have had over the years.

Current Casual and Working Bee Volunteers

Wild Days relies on not only regular volunteers who are rostered on for weekly, fortnightly or monthly shifts, but also on a network of amazing people who are happy to be called upon to help with projects, working bees, sewing, fundraising or anything else that may be needed from time to time.  We have a great base of people willing to put their hands up to lend a hand.

Working bees

Throughout the year, Wild Days holds Working Bees, where many  volunteers come together on one day to get the big jobs at the shelter done!  Check out our Supporters page for more photos below of past Working Bees.
