Parrot Playground Award Series

Parrots have big beaks! When they are in care at Wild Days, they like to chew on everything. This is to keep them busy.
You could help the parrots at Wild Days by making some toys made from natural materials for them to play with while they recover.

Parrot Toy Award

Make 1 parrot toy for the parrots at Wild Days.

Tell us what natural materials you have used,
where they come from, and what their role is in nature..

Super Parrot Toy Award

Make 5 parrot toys for the parrots at Wild Days.

Tell us five species of parrots that have come into care at Wild Days and how they are unique.  What do they eat in the wild and where do they find their food?  Why do they need such a strong beak?  Would they enjoy different types of parrot toys given they are different sizes?  Perhaps you can make a range of toys for the different parrots that come into care.

Super Dooper Parrot Toy Award

Make 5 parrot toys each month, for 3 months.

Why are toys important for animals when they are recovering from an injury or growing up at Wild Days?  What does 'enrichment' mean?
Why is 'enrichment' so important?
Can you think of 'enrichment' for other animals we care for at Wild Days?

Instructions:

You will need:
-  2 handfuls of natural materials such as gum nuts, pine cones, leaves and flowers,
- A 30cm - 60cm piece of wire,

What To Do:
  1. Take a piece of natural material and thread the wire through it,
  2. Repeat Step 1 with all of your materials.
  3. Bend the ends of the wire to make a hook at each end of the wire (you may need your parent's help) so we can hang it up in their cage.
Congratulations, you're a hero!  When you have finished an award, click here!
